2001 BHSAHOF Inductees

Norm Ashworth
1928 – 2022

Varsity basketball coach for 21 years from 1959-1979. Norm led his teams to multiple Mid-Miami (1962-1963) and Western Ohio League championships (1969-1970 and 1970-1971). His 1969-1970 team was 20-2. He was named “Coach of the Year” for the WOL during two consecutive seasons 1969-1970 and 970-1971.

Josephine Auld Sipe
1908-2002

The first girls’ basketball and track coach dating back to 1930 where she led the basketball team for 10 years and the track team for 11 years. Her basketball teams were county champions 4 seasons (1933, ‘34, ‘35, and ‘38) and achieved 1st or 2nd place in the league all 10 seasons. Her track teams were equally successful winning 5 county championships (1933.’37. ’38. ’39, and ’41) and placing 1st or 2nd in the league each season.

Charlie Back 1988

Played varsity basketball for 3 seasons and established several BHS records that still exist. One of the top 5 All-Time BHS scorers. He held the BHS season record holder for 3-pointers. Charlie started for the Beavers all 3 seasons, was team captain his senior season and played in the Ohio-Indiana All-Star game in 1988. He was 1st team All-WOL. ALL Greater Dayton, All-SW District, Greene County Player of the Year, District 15 All-Star, Honorable mention All-State and McDonalds All-America nominee.

Dan Bennett
1980

Dan played as a starter in football (2-years), basketball (2-years), and baseball (2-years) at BHS. He excelled in all three sports. In football, he was 2nd team All WOL and Special Mention All Greater Dayton. During the season he had 29 catches for over 500 yards. Dan was a 2year starter in Basketball averaging 10.1 PPG plus 10 rebounds per game. He was 2nd team All WOL and a District 9 All Star. Additionally, Dan was selected All-Greater Dayton, All-Area selection and 2nd All WOL in Baseball. He was the BHS team MVP in all 3 sports during his senior season.

Tammy Berger 1989

Played Soccer, basketball and track, earning 9 Varsity Letters during her BHS career. She won All-WOL considerations in Soccer (Team Co-Captain) and basketball, was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Soccer game and All-Star Basketball games her senior seasons and led the basketball teams during her junior and senior years to undefeated regular seasons. Was tabbed as the Outstanding Female Runner at the Beavercreek Relays.

Allen Burger 1949
1930-2019

Played baseball, football, basketball and track earning a total of 12 Varsity letters. He led the BHS basketball team in scoring during his senior season. In baseball, he pitched a one-hitter as a junior. Allen was the Low and High hurdle champion for Greene County during both his junior and senior seasons. Allen is in the Dayton Baseball Hall of Fame.

Sharma Coy
1990

Was a 3 sports star that played Volleyball, basketball and softball earning varsity letters in all three sports. In softball, she established single game records that remain for home runs with 4 and Runs Batted in with 11. During her senior season, Sharma batted .500, led the team with runs scored (20) and Runs Batted in (25). In Basketball, the team went 24-1 and 23-2. Sharma was the co-winner of the “Coaches Award” her senior season and she earned various awards in Volleyball

Vincent Duncan 1943
1925-2005

Played baseball, basketball and track. Vincent was an awesome starting pitcher as represented by pitching 2 no-hitters as a senior. Vincent pitched on the ’41 State Championship baseball team and District Runners-Up team of’43. His basketball team was league and tournament champions in 1943 during his senior campaign while his track teams were league champions for 3 seasons. The track team was State Runners Up in 1943.

Lloyd Fruhwirth 1953
1935-2001

Played football for 3 seasons, basketball for 4 years, baseball for 4 years and track for 4 years. Lloyd was all-league in three sports (football, basketball & baseball) and is considered one of the better baseball players in BHS history. His 1952 and 1953 baseball teams won State Championships for Beavercreek.

Larry Glass
1953

1935-2019

Played varsity baseball for 4 seasons, basketball for 3 seasons and football for 2 seasons. Larry was a starter on the baseball team all 4 years and was, considered by some, “the most dominating pitcher during the two State Championship seasons” and perhaps the most dominating pitcher ever at BHS. His pitching record was 41 victories 2 losses. He was All State in Baseball. For basketball, he was the top scorer both his junior and senior seasons. In football, Larry was Honorable Mention All-State. Larry has coached at the collegiate level and has been elected to the State of Michigan H.S. Basketball Hall of Fame.

Roger” Greene 1941

Baseball, basketball & track, Roger had several individual achievements most notably in track. Roger was #1 in the league for low and high hurdles as a junior and senior and earned 2nd place as a sophomore. His 880 Relay team was first for 3 years and placed 2nd in the state during his senior season. As a baseball player, he played shortstop on the state championship team of 1941 and he played starting forward for 3 seasons on the league championship basketball team.

Bob Keller
1944

Track, basketball, cross country & baseball, most notably was the Ohio State champion in the mile run representing BHS in 1943 and 1944. Along the way, Bob earned 1st place in the League and District for both the mile run and 880 Run while earning the District Championship in Cross Country.

Debbie Kibler 1972

Debbie swam with excellence establishing multiple swimming records at AAU meets during her junior high and senior high careers. She excelled especially in the breaststroke where several of her records remain. She accumulated 20 Ohio state swimming records at that time. She attended many National meets. During 1969, she was ranked #1 in the nation in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Erik Lovell
1990

Soccer, Football, Basketball and Track. Erik was the first athlete since 1951 to earn 4 varsity letters in a single year. In football, he led the WOL in average yards per kickoff. In soccer, Erik was All-WOL and was the varsity team captain for 2 seasons. As a junior, his team was WOL champions, a first soccer championship for BHS. During his senior seasons, his teams won the WOL for soccer, track and basketball. Lastly, Erik made All-WOL Academic team in each of the 4 sports.

Edgar “Lefty” McFadden
1923-2004

Lefty has always been (dating back to the late 40’s) a friend to the BHS athletic programs. He has contributed his time and talents to promote quality athletics. By holding various positions with various local media, such as Dayton Daily News, WHIO TV, WAVI radio & Beavercreek News, he has influenced the Beavercreek sports culture. Additionally, Lefty was past President of the Boosters Club on two separate occasions, spearheaded the 1990 project for the Press box at the current stadium and recently sold advertising for the scoreboard and programs.

Jack McGuire 1976

Jack still holds the present-day record, in track, for pole-vaulting at 14’6″ and was an All-State selection when he won the State pole-vaulting championship in 1976 his senior season. In Gymnastics, he was ranked 4th All-Ohio in the All-Around events (High Bar, Vault, Floor Exercise, Pommel Horse and Parallel Bars). He established multiple BHS All-Around marks, participated in AAU events. Clearly, he led his track and gymnastics teams to the State competition.

Jon Roddy
1981

Played Football, Basketball, Baseball earning 7 Varsity letters. In football, he was selected All-WOL, All-Southwest Ohio, captain and team MVP as a senior. In basketball, Jon was selected Most Improved Player and averaged 10 assists per games as a senior. In baseball, he led the team in batting average, hits, base-on-balls, Runs Batted in and stolen bases. He hit .455 as a junior and .448 as a senior leading to an All- WOL, All-Miami Valley, All-State selection.

Vollie Roddy
1932-2021

Coached as a Football assistant for 15 years, Wrestling assistant coach, Head Coach of Reserve Baseball for 3 years and Head Varsity Baseball Coach for 17 seasons. Vollie is in the Miami Valley Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame. His Varsity Baseball record was an outstanding 283-154 where he won the WOL, District and Regional titles on multiple occasions.

Jim Zink
1951
1932-2020

Played Baseball, Basketball, Track and Football. During his senior season, the teams that he played on combined for only 5 losses during the entire year. Jim earned 4 varsity letters his senior season. As a basketball player, Jim was the second leading scorer, top free throw percentage and top assist leader. In track, his events were shot-put, Discus, and High-Jump. As a baseball player, he was a great first baseman where the state final was the only loss experienced that year.
